1907: The Birth of the Sea Heroes

To understand Leixões, you have to understand the community. Founded in 1907, the club is deeply intertwined with the fishermen, the port workers, and the streets of Matosinhos. They are known as the Heróis do Mar (Heroes of the Sea), a title earned through sweat and sheer resilience.

But it was in 1961 that their legacy was forever immortalized. In a legendary Taça de Portugal final, Leixões stormed the Estádio das Antas and defeated FC Porto 2-0 on their own turf. It was the ultimate underdog story, fueled by a fearless generation of homegrown players affectionately dubbed the Bebés do Mar (Babies of the Sea). Three years later, they inaugurated the Estádio do Mar, cementing a fortress of local pride that still stands today.

Archival Inspiration, Industrial Execution

When we stepped into the Leixões archives to design this collaboration, we were immediately drawn to the raw aesthetic of their vintage uniforms. The heavy cottons, the stark typography, and the utilitarian functionality of 20th-century sportswear align perfectly with the Coup D'État DNA.

We took those vintage cues and re-engineered them for the modern street. The goal was to take the uniform out of the stadium and integrate it into the daily rotation.

Pure Portuguese Soul

This collaboration is more than apparel. It’s a study in heritage design. It’s about taking the ghosts of 1961, the roar of the Estádio do Mar, and the salt of the Matosinhos coast, and weaving them into something entirely new.

This isn't merchandise. It's Coup D'État x Leixões S.C.
