From Chaves to Faro

From Chaves to Faro

A Trip Through Nacional 2.

Next post Previous post

There is a line that cuts directly through the heart of Portugal.

Stretching 738 kilometers from the Roman bridges of Chaves in the north to the sun-baked coastline of Faro in the south, the Estrada Nacional 2 (N2) is more than just a route. It is the country’s longest road, our very own Route 66, and a living archive of Portuguese heritage.

Traveling the N2 is a rite of passage. It’s a journey defined by the slow transition of landscapes—from the misty, granite-carved mountains of the north, through the sweeping vineyards of the Douro, down into the endless golden plains of the Alentejo, before finally meeting the ocean. The tradition of driving the N2 isn’t about the destination; it’s about the stops along the way. It’s the ritual of collecting stamps in your N2 passport, pulling over at roadside tascas frozen in time, and navigating by the worn creases of a physical desdobrável map on the dashboard.

For Spring/Summer 2026, Coup D'État took that drive. We wanted to capture the raw, vintage feel of the Portuguese interior and translate the momentum of the road into garments built for the journey.

Translating the Journey into our collection

The collection draws heavily from the textures, shifting climates, and old-school charm of the N2, blending our signature edgy minimalism with deep vintage roots.

  • Outerwear: Driving from the cool, altitude-heavy north into the dry southern heat requires adaptability. Our outerwear pieces feature utilitarian cuts and lightweight, weather-resistant fabrics. They are designed with a rugged but clean silhouette—perfect for throwing on over a tee when the wind picks up off the mountains.

  • Knitwear: Inspired by the rich, tactile heritage of the Portuguese interior. We used varying textures that mirror the rugged landscapes you pass through, keeping the cuts relaxed and the tones grounded in the earth, stone, and flora of the countryside.

  • T-Shirts: The core of any road trip wardrobe. Cut from heavy-weight, premium cotton, the tees feature graphics that pay homage to faded, vintage N2 road signs, old local mechanical garages, and the classic fold-out maps of decades past.

  • Polos: A nod to the retro-leisure aesthetic of finally reaching the Algarve. These polos are crisp, breathable, and slightly structured, evoking the effortless, mid-century cool of a southern European summer.

The N2 collection is an homage to moving forward while respecting what was left behind. From Chaves to Faro, the SS26 capsule is built for the drive.
